About Gary Price

The exceptional care I bring to every client didn’t come from a textbook. It came from a winding road I never planned to walk.

I’m Gary Price, a London wig consultant with 40 years’ experience in hair and medical hair loss.

The Beginning

My career in hair started by accident. In the 1980s I was spotted on the street sporting a bright orange Mohican and asked to walk in a fashion show, I ended up backstage holding rollers and brushes for the stylists instead. A salon owner watching that day saw something in me and offered me an apprenticeship on the spot. I spent the next decade cutting hair through the New Romantic and punk scenes, styling actors and musicians in Soho, and working London Fashion Week , six models, four looks each, ten minutes over schedule. I learned early that talent alone doesn’t make a stylist. Calm hands, honest advice, and actually listening to the person in the chair matter just as much.

Becoming a Hair Loss Consultant

Everything changed in the late 1990s, when a close friend, a hairdresser herself , was diagnosed with a rare, untreatable cancer. I moved in to help care for her, and in her final months, at the hospice where we sat with her every day, word got round that I was “the wig man.” The other women there started asking me to fix their wigs, or find them something better. It was quietly the most rewarding work I’d ever done. After she passed, once I could think straight again, I went back and retrained, this time specifically in medical hair loss, and then in psychotherapy, qualifying as an integrative therapist and bereavement counsellor.

My Offer as a Wig Consultant

That’s the combination I bring to every consultation today: three decades of real hairdressing craft, and a genuine understanding of what it means to lose your hair and feel like you’re losing part of yourself. I do all my consultations facing my clients, because eye contact matters and people need to feel seen and heard. and I’ll never sell a wig I haven’t let a client see, touch and try on first. My job isn’t just fitting wigs. It’s helping you feel like yourself again.
